Unusual 18th/19th c. Japanese Sagemono - Round Wooden Box with Silver Samurai Menuki, Brocade Liner and Hirado Porcelain NetsukeFor your consideration is a very intriguing find
An antique Japanese box, turned from black finished root wood, with hinged lid
A well detailed silver menuki style ornament featuring a kneeling samurai in full armor decorates the top
The interior is lined up with golden brocade fabric displaying stamped floral pattern with weaved metal strings
The inner side of the lid bears incrusted mother of pearl stylized chrysanthemum, the Imperial Family Emblem
Two holes aside intended for a string
An attached on a cord Hirado porcelain netsuke figurine of a fiercely looking man is hidden inside the box. Whether the whole group was intended to be like this or it was organized at latter moment, we can just guess
A puzzling item with a puzzling purpose, it could be an amulet of a kind to be carried around for protection or just a common accessory
