Vintage antique Japanese silver? Cigarette Box Trinket Box Marked

Up for sale is a vintage Japanese cigarette box made of sterling silver. The box features intricate detailing and is marked with a stamp indicating its authenticity. This piece is a great addition to any collection of antique Asian items.
Now, I am not 100% sure what the stamping on the bottom of the trinket box means there are different symbols. I am unfamiliar with these markings.
Any information on this is welcomed.
It is marked with an M. And numbered 100749.
And it says made in Japan.
I was told it was Sterling Sliver, Sliver plated, and that this is a very old piece.
Used conditions.
There are dings and scrapes selling as is.
