This is an antique Japanese lacquered wood scroll box. It is made to look like a book and has been lacquered in black and tan with 9 red, black, and gold cranes in the maki-e technique. The lock looks broken and has no key but the box closes nicely. There are a few pieces of tape inside. I wasn't going to try to peel them off. It is signed lower right corner on the lid. I am uncertain of it's age. It is at least 100 years old. Around 1900 would be my guess. It is a stylish piece and measures approximately 10¾" x 3½" x 2½". Condition is good+ to very good. There is wear, some lacquer is chipped and there is a paint splatter near the signature. Please see the photos and item details for more specifics.
