The most noticeable condition issue is the loss of the interior counter-enameling on the bottom piece. This enamel loss is due the normal wear and tear of the piece.     Description

    I suppose no Japanese cloisonne enamel collection would be complete without an export trade piece!
    This small amusing covered box is decorated with a seated Egyptian figure holding some implement.
    The highlight of the work is definitely the many enamel colors used in this small, but vibrant box.
    The small covered box is in remarkably excellent antique condition considering its age.
    It does have the expected pits and scuff on the edges.
    The most noticeable condition issue is the loss of the interior counter-enameling on the bottom piece.
    This enamel loss is due the normal wear and tear of the piece.
    The bottom has some scratches and wear to the finish.
    I originally purchased this piece many years ago as I needed an example of Japanese cloisonne enamel export pieces.
    This exact piece is illustrated in Chapter 16, “
    Yusen Jippo
    ,” standard wire cloisonne enamel, in “Japanese Cloisonne Enamels; A Private Collector’s Notes and Reference Guide,” by Gary Yoshino, page 159.
