This is a very old and rare Japanese storage tansu used by NOH actors to store their books on the top shelf and writing accessories in the draw below.
The front ‘door’ slides out to a large space on top and a single draw below.
The top was designed to hold all the Noh books stacked one on top of the other.
Small and light enough to be carried around.
It was made in Meji period  and its hardware handmade of iron.
Its ultimate beauty can be seen from its ratio and balance designed by the maker and textures worn by time.
Drawer moves smoothly.
