Presented is an ornate Whiting sterling silver pitcher, dated 1915. The pitcher features beautiful applied decoration in the form of classical urns, cornucopiae, floral garlands, rosettes, and wreaths. The designs are very eye-catching and appealing. The neck of the pitcher has fabulously hand chased floral and foliate decoration, forming a nice backdrop to some of the applied designs. The handle is done in scroll form, with a foliate thumbpiece. The handle has an unobtrusive monogram of EEF in decorative script. This is a well made piece, with a nice feeling of weight and quality in the hand. The pitcher has an impressive capacity of 5 1/4 pints, or 84 fluid ounces/2.5 liters. The pitcher is clean inside and out, ready for use or display.
This piece is in excellent condition. There are no splits, no dents, no monogram removals, and no solder repairs.
The pitcher is stamped on the underside with the maker's mark for Whiting as well as sterling, the number 6326, the capacity of 5 ¼ pints, the date mark for 1915, and the retail mark for Shreve, Crump & Low Co.
